Rajshahi:Bangladesh is on a path to transition from a least developed to a developed nation by adhering to international standards across all sectors. This was the focus of a discussion held in Rajshahi on the occasion of the 57th World Standards Day, highlighting the need for collaboration to enhance product quality and accuracy in measurements.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was held at the conference room of the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner, emphasizing this year's theme, "Shared Vision for a Better World, Affordable and Environment-Friendly Fuel."
Rajshahi Division Commissioner Yusuf Ali, speaking as the chief guest, stressed the moral and religious responsibility of maintaining honesty and standards in daily life, including business practices. Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of 'No Poverty' and 'Zero Hunger' requires proper food utilization and increased purchasing power, he noted.
BSTI Divisional Director Jahura Sikdar highlighted the importance of enhancing education, health, and public services. She called for adherence to the SDGs' fourth goal, which mandates quality education beyond exam results, focusing on real knowledge and skills. Sikdar also underscored the necessity of maintaining physical health and the dangers of self-medication without professional advice.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Faizul Kabir warned against dishonest practices in export products, such as shrimp, which could damage Bangladesh's international reputation and harm the business community. He advocated for sustainable success through adherence to standards in various sectors and urged the strengthening of BSTI's regulatory activities to safeguard consumer rights and public health.
The event was attended by government and private sector officials, distinguished guests, and journalists. It concluded with a vibrant rally starting and ending at the Divisional Commissioner's office, demonstrating a shared commitment to the nation's development goals.
