Cox's Bazar:The coastal district of Cox's Bazar is preparing to host more than 600,000 tourists during the five-day Durga Puja holidays from October 20 to 24, with hotels, motels, and resorts experiencing a surge in advance bookings.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, tourism-related businesses are anticipating a significant influx of visitors, as approximately 70 percent of accommodation facilities have already been booked in advance. To accommodate this increase, transport services will be expanded, and measures will be taken to enhance hospitality and ensure the safety and comfort of tourists.

Abul Kashem Sikder, president of the Cox's Bazar Hotel-Motel Owners Association, stated that over 100,000 tourists are expected to arrive daily during the holiday period. He noted that the district boasts more than 500 hotels, motels, and cottages, many of which are reporting strong advance bookings. Nazim Uddin, president of the Cox's Bazar Hotel Employees Union, added that most rooms in star-rated hotels have already been reserved.

At the Mermaid Beach Resort near Marine Drive in Ramu, around 80 percent of rooms have been booked, according to resort manager Rana Karmakar. The resort will welcome guests for Sharadiya Durga Puja, with its restaurant open to all visitors.

Tarek Aziz, front office manager of the Best Western Heritage Hotel, reported that 80 to 90 percent of rooms have been booked in advance. To facilitate travel, Bangladesh Railway will operate special trains on the Cox's Bazar route on October 20, 23, and 24.

Cox's Bazar Railway Station Manager Zainal Abedin confirmed the additional train services, arranged to handle the increased passenger volume during the holidays. Tasnim Jahan, additional district magistrate of Cox's Bazar, mentioned that the district administration is coordinating with law enforcement and relevant organizations to ensure tourist safety and comfort.

The expected tourist influx is anticipated to significantly boost the local economy, benefiting hotels, restaurants, transport operators, and other service providers. However, the success of the holiday season will depend on effective management of the increased pressure while maintaining a clean and visitor-friendly environment.
