Baku:As the Hindu community in Bangladesh gears up for the Sharadiya Durga Puja, online shopping is becoming a favored alternative to the bustling physical markets. Digital platforms report a significant increase in demand as they provide easy access to festive clothing, jewellery, cosmetics, and traditional sweets.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, fashion remains the leading category in Bangladesh's online marketplace, as highlighted in a report published in June 2026. With the festival approaching, digital shoppers are exploring a wide range of traditional and contemporary outfits, including sarees, salwar kameez, panjabis, children's clothing, and matching attire for couples.

Local online entrepreneurs are tapping into this digital shift by offering creative, thematic collections. Nurun Nahar Tripti, owner of the online clothing brand Suranjana, has introduced a special Durga Puja collection featuring floral themes and nostalgic designs. Tania Wahab, an entrepreneur focusing on leather accessories and eco-friendly products, has also expanded her inventory to include traditional items like Nakshi Kantha.

The digital marketplace in Bangladesh is rich with boutique shops catering to festive needs, blending heritage handloom designs with modern styles to attract younger consumers. Additionally, Durga Puja serves as a peak season for online businesses specializing in traditional foods, with companies like Anannya and Caramel Cafe experiencing significant growth in demand for their culinary offerings.

Online shopping has also democratized access to festive retail for customers outside major cities. Despite some challenges such as discrepancies in product delivery and return policies, consumers are advised to order early, check seller ratings, and confirm delivery timelines to mitigate risks.

E-commerce has firmly established itself as a crucial element of festival preparations in Bangladesh, offering local entrepreneurs and consumers unprecedented opportunities as Durga Puja approaches. The ultimate challenge for online retailers will be to maintain high-quality offerings and reliable customer service.
