Dhaka:State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam highlighted the government's focus on cultural diplomacy as a means to strengthen international partnerships and elevate Bangladesh's global stature. She emphasized this approach at a seminar titled "Kazi Nazrul Islam The Universal Voice of Freedom and Humanity," held at the Foreign Service Academy.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the seminar, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, featured a vibrant cultural program following the discussions.

Shama Obaed Islam pointed out that culture is increasingly seen as a strategic tool for showcasing Bangladesh's heritage, values, and identity, especially in an era marked by geopolitical tension and pressures on multilateral cooperation. She stressed that diplomacy should move beyond traditional methods to incorporate the power of culture in building international relations.

The state minister noted that Bangladesh aims to leverage its rich cultural traditions to foster goodwill, trust, and enduring relationships globally. She called for a shared platform to unite people and fortify their commitment to universal values.

She described national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam as a symbol of harmony and solidarity, whose works could serve as a conduit for cultural diplomacy, promoting humanity across borders. Nazrul's legacy, she said, exemplifies how cultural expression can transcend boundaries and enhance mutual understanding among nations.

Shama Obaed Islam underscored the ongoing relevance of Nazrul's philosophy to Bangladesh's identity and its pursuit of peace, tolerance, and international understanding. She also highlighted the potential to expand awareness of Nazrul's contributions and philosophy to a wider international audience.

Promoting Nazrul globally would position Bangladesh as a culturally rich and intellectually assured nation dedicated to peace and development, she stated. The state minister expressed optimism that increased international engagement with Nazrul's works would deepen appreciation of his ideals and foster new opportunities for cultural exchange.

The event was attended by Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury as the chief guest, with State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmood Khyom among the special guests. Contributions were also made by Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, Foreign Service Academy Rector Ambassador Nahida Sobhan, and poet Abdul Hye Sikder. Professor Dr Mohammad Musharof Hossain, Vice-Chancellor of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University, delivered the keynote address.
