Accra:A parliamentary committee has recommended implementing a three-year warranty by collecting security deposits from contractors to ensure the quality of rural road construction. This follows directives from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and was discussed during the first meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, chaired by AKM Selim Reza Habib.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the committee emphasized enhancing monitoring of construction work by ensuring officials properly fulfill their duties. A presentation was made on the ministry's activities and its subordinate departments and agencies.

The committee advised taking measures to identify arsenic-affected areas nationwide to secure safe drinking water for residents. Additionally, it recommended intensifying cleanliness campaigns and raising public awareness to control Aedes mosquitoes and prevent dengue, with Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) supervising these efforts in their areas.

To promote accountability, the committee urged officials to perform their duties with honesty and integrity, free from nepotism. It also suggested introducing an online attendance system for officials at the upazila level to bolster monitoring and accountability.

The committee further recommended investigating irregularities and corruption in unnecessary projects financed with domestic and foreign funds during the previous administration, described as 'fascist.'
