Dhaka:A rally organized by the Bangladesh Labour Foundation took place in front of the Jatiya Press Club to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child 2026, with a focus on the theme 'End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls' Rights'.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the event underscored the importance of ensuring girls' rights to education, play, and a safe childhood, free from discrimination and exploitation.

Participants highlighted the difficulties faced by girls involved in child labour, noting that many are denied educational opportunities, recreation, and other basic rights.

The rally called for coordinated efforts to combat child labour, eradicate child marriage, eliminate gender-based discrimination, and protect girls from rights violations. The goal is to ensure that every girl can grow up in a safe and supportive environment.

The 2026 theme was developed through consultations with girls, girls' organizations, girl-led networks, civil society organizations, and United Nations partners, all of whom emphasized the need for urgent action to end child marriage and promote investment in girls' rights.
