Mymensingh:Two youths lost their lives in separate lightning strikes in Ishwarganj Upazila of Mymensingh and Ghatail Upazila of Tangail on Thursday.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the victims were identified as Mohammad Tota Mia, aged 28, from Uzanchar Naopara village in Rajibpur Union, Ishwarganj, and Saiful Islam from Hatilaeit Bazar area in Rangamatia Union, Phulbaria Upazila, Mymensingh.
The first incident occurred in Uzanchar Naopara village when Tota Mia went to a crop field around 4pm with his cousin Abdus Samad and neighbor Manik Mia to cut grass for cattle. A sudden lightning strike critically injured Tota Mia, while Abdus Samad and Manik Mia lost consciousness from the thunder but recovered shortly after. Locals attempted to take Tota Mia to Ishwarganj Upazila Health Complex, but he died en route.
In the second incident, Saiful Islam went fishing in the Atarochura Beel in Mominpur area of Ghatail Upazila, approximately four kilometers from his home. As a storm accompanied by rain developed in the afternoon, he was struck by lightning and died instantly. Confirmation of the incident was provided by Phulbaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Rashedul Hasan.
