Kaliganj:The upazila administration retrieved 56 sacks of illegally stockpiled fertiliser from a kitchen in Kaliganj upazila, Lalmonirhat, on Thursday, imposing a fine of Tk 15,000 on an individual for the offence.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the fine was levied on Md Jamal Uddin by a mobile court during an operation in the Bairati Hajirhat area under Tushbhandar Union around 830pm. The raid, led by Kaliganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Saiful Islam, was carried out based on information that Jamal had been illegally storing fertiliser at his residence for an extended period.
The operation resulted in the recovery of 56 sacks of fertiliser from Jamal's kitchen. These included 40 sacks of urea, four sacks of MOP, and 12 sacks of DAP. The confiscated fertiliser was subsequently sold to an authorised dealer at government-fixed prices, generating a total of Tk 70,600.
UNO Saiful Islam emphasized that legal action would be taken against anyone stockpiling fertiliser in violation of government regulations. He also noted that such operations would continue to support farmers' interests.
