Rajshahi:A probe committee at Rajshahi University (RU) has recommended the suspension of four students following an attack on journalists at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the committee has advised further investigation into allegations against an additional four students before any action is taken and suggested issuing warnings to three others.
The five-member committee was established to identify those involved in the incident that occurred on October 4. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Faridul Islam presented the investigation report to journalists at a conference on Friday, noting that the university administration had received the report around midnight on Thursday.
The probe panel's recommendations for suspension include Ahsan Habib, Vice President of the RU unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD); Hasibul Hasan, Joint General Secretary; Ariful Islam, General Secretary of Ziaur Rahman Hall Students' Union; and Bishal Chakraborty, a JCD activist.
Further investigation was recommended for Rakibul Islam, assistant cultural affairs secretary of the RU Central Students' Union (RUCSU); Takbir Ahmed Emon, vice president of RU unit JCD; Syed Sajharul Islam, joint general secretary; and JCD activist Tanim Rahman. Warnings were suggested for Bulbul Rahman and Shariful Islam, vice-presidents of the university unit of JCD, and Shahriar Alam, assistant office secretary.
The attack occurred on October 4 as journalists were performing their professional duties in front of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall, resulting in injuries to at least 10 people, including four journalists. The university administration promptly formed the probe committee, which was instructed to submit its findings within 72 hours.
