Chattogram:Police have arrested an auto-rickshaw driver in Chattogram in connection with the murder of a 15-year-old schoolgirl from Cumilla. Her body was discovered in a paddy field in Lalmai upazila on Thursday.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the arrested individual, Sumon, was identified as the driver of the CNG-run auto-rickshaw that transported the schoolgirl, Jannatul Tazmin, before her death. Additional Superintendent of Police Md Lutfar Rahman stated that Sumon was apprehended early Friday following a tip-off. He is being transferred to Cumilla for further investigation.
Jannatul Tazmin, a seventh-grade student at Farida Vidyayatan in Cumilla city, was found deceased in Jagatpur of Lalmai upazila. The police discovered her body around 700 am in a paddy field near Manumura jungle, with a gamcha wrapped around her neck. A green CNG-run autorickshaw was abandoned nearby.
Her father, Abdul Alim, reported that Jannatul left their rented home on October 4, intending to visit a friend's house, and later went to Cox's Bazar with the friend. Their last communication was at 200 am on Thursday after her return to Cumilla. Concerned when he lost contact, Abdul Alim traced her mobile phone to Lalmai and later learned of her death. He has since filed a murder case with Lalmai police station against unidentified individuals.
