Gulshan:LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Abdul Moyeen Khan emphasized that politics should focus on establishing people's rights rather than merely seeking power. Speaking at a discussion with teachers of The Millennium University on 'National Teachers' Day 2026' at his Gulshan residence, he highlighted the need to change the trend of spending large sums on elections.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Moyeen Khan stated that politics should be guided by the ideal of serving the people and that elected representatives must be accountable to the public. He stressed the importance of electing the right representatives for effective governance.
The minister described local government as a key pillar of democracy, asserting that national democracy cannot function effectively without being established at the grassroots level. He addressed the challenges facing the current government, including reforming local government institutions, ensuring public services, and conducting elections at five different levels.
Moyeen Khan reiterated the government's commitment to ensure that all citizens have access to polling centers and can vote in the upcoming local government elections. He called for unity above political divisions to work towards national development and welfare.
He also praised the significant contributions of Bangladeshi NGOs in alleviating poverty and improving living standards. The minister emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination between local government institutions and NGOs to enhance development efforts.
During the event, Moyeen Khan inaugurated the 'Khan Foundation' website. The discussion was attended by Millennium University's Board of Trustees chairperson Advocate Rokhsana Khandaker, vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Abhinoy Chandra Saha, Khan Foundation's executive director Mahmuda Khatun, and representatives from various NGOs, university teachers, and employees of the Khan Foundation.
