Nagarkanda:State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam stated that Jamaat-e-Islami would be accountable if fascism were to return to Bangladesh, citing its failure to act as a responsible opposition party.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Shama Obaed made these remarks at a protest rally organized by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur. The rally was held to protest against attempts to incite terrorism, anarchy, and instability nationwide.

The minister highlighted the challenges faced by Bangladesh, noting that the people had endured 17 years of repression, attacks, politically motivated cases, and enforced disappearances. She expressed concern that despite progress towards stability after overcoming an autocratic regime, fascist forces were once again attempting to gain influence.

Discussing the power sector, Shama Obaed accused the Awami League government of widespread corruption while criticizing the previous Yunus-led interim government for failing to address the sector's issues effectively. She emphasized the current government's efforts to restore normalcy in the power sector.

Urging BNP leaders and activists to stay alert, she warned against the infiltration of authoritarian elements into the party, which could undermine its activities. Additionally, she reaffirmed the BNP's strong stance against those who seek to undermine or marginalize the country's freedom fighters.

The protest procession began at the Nagarkanda Sadar petrol pump and moved through the main streets, concluding with a rally at the Nagarkanda MN Academy ground.
