Jakarta:A city Jatiya Sangsad Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni stated that the government is actively working to overcome current challenges in the health sector and to ensure that medical services are accessible to everyone.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Moni made these comments while serving as the chief guest at the 8th National Conference and Annual General Meeting 2026 of the Bangladesh Thyroid Society (BTS) held at a city hotel.
Moni criticized the previous government for causing extensive damage across various sectors in the country. He highlighted that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, with support from Dr. Zubaida Rahman, has nearly doubled the budget allocation for the health sector as part of the restructuring efforts.
He further emphasized the significance of public awareness and research on thyroid diseases, noting the essential role of the thyroid gland in human growth, intellectual development, and the regulation of bodily functions. Moni urged all stakeholders to collaborate in preventing thyroid diseases, ensuring early diagnosis, and providing advanced treatments.
The event was chaired by Prof Dr. AKM Fazlul Bari, President of the Bangladesh Thyroid Society and Director of the National Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (NINMAS). Other notable attendees included Professor Dr. Harun Al Rashid, President of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh; Professor Dr. M. A. Karim, Chief Adviser to the Bangladesh Thyroid Society; Professor Dr. A. K. Azad Khan, President of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh; Professor Dr. Nasrin Sultana, Secretary-General of the Society; and Professor Fouzia Moslem, the founding president of the Society.
The conference featured scientific discussions on modern methods of diagnosing and treating thyroid diseases, thyroid cancer, thyroid disorders during pregnancy, iodine deficiency disorders, and the connection between thyroid diseases and cardiovascular health. A total of 12 oral research papers and 10 posters were presented throughout the day.
