Rajshahi:Professor Dr. Golbar Hossain from the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at Rajshahi University emphasized the importance of regular egg consumption during his keynote presentation at a seminar marking World Egg Day.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event, held at the Deans Complex conference hall, was organized by the DVAS with support from the Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council and the Bangladesh branch of the World's Poultry Science Association. Vice-Chancellor Prof Fatidul Islam served as the chief guest, while Pro-VC Prof Abdul Alim and Dean Prof Khondoker Mozaffar Hossain also addressed the gathering.

Experts at the seminar discussed the theme "Nutrition in eggs, energy in eggs, and immunity from disease through eggs," highlighting how eggs are a balanced food source, low in calories and saturated fat, yet rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals. They noted eggs' role in ensuring the proper functioning of major organs and in addressing nutritional deficiencies, regardless of age, gender, or season.

Prof Jalal Uddin Sarder, another speaker at the event, pointed out that there is no significant link between egg consumption and heart disease, attributing cholesterol concerns to high intake of saturated and trans fats instead. He advocated for addressing issues in the poultry sector to boost egg production and make poultry farming more profitable.

Prof Shariful Islam dismissed misconceptions about eggs leading to heart disease, recommending regular egg intake for pregnant women and children, while Prof Khondoker Mozaffar Hossain highlighted the nutritional benefits of eggs, stating their importance in muscle and tissue development and brain growth.
