Chattogram:Six faculty members from Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) have been named among the world's top two percent of researchers. This list is jointly compiled by Stanford University and the Netherlands-based publisher Elsevier.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the number of CUET faculty members on the list has increased from four last year to six this year. These distinguished individuals represent four different departments Physics, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
Professor Dr. Md. Ashraf Ali from the Department of Physics ranks the highest among the group, positioned at 1,418th globally in Applied Physics with 88 research papers. His colleagues in the same department, Prof Dr. Md. Mohiuddin and Prof Dr. Md. Muktar Hossain, rank 4,541st and 5,119th, with 87 and 81 research papers, respectively.
From the Chemistry Department, Prof Dr. Yunus Ahmed is ranked 426th globally in General Chemistry, having authored 34 research papers. In Biomedical Engineering, Prof Dr. Samit Majumder ranks 941st in Analytical Chemistry, with 20 research papers. Prof Dr. Mostafa Kamal Bhuiya from the Mechanical Engineering Department is ranked 7,350th globally in Reliability Engineering, with 44 research papers.
The Stanford-Elsevier ranking evaluates researchers based on the number of publications, research impact, and citations. It utilizes Scopus data, which covers millions of researchers worldwide, organized into 22 major fields and 174 sub-fields. A researcher qualifies by ranking among the top 100,000 scientists by c-score or by placing in the top two percent of their specific sub-field.
