Chattogram:Police have arrested 1,154 individuals over the past 24 hours across the 11 districts under the Chattogram Range Police as part of a significant operation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the operations targeted various criminal activities including juvenile gangs, mugging, extortion, terrorist activities, and drug-related crimes. The Range Police office released a report detailing these figures.
The report revealed that among those arrested, 94 were involved in regular cases, 70 in prior cases, 50 under Section 34 of the Police Act, three under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and 32 under Section 151 of the CrPC and other laws. Additionally, 176 individuals were arrested on various warrants and 17 on conviction warrants.
In the context of drug-related operations, police apprehended 95 people involved in drug cases, including one carrier and 94 users. Furthermore, 57 individuals were detained as drug dealers in both regular and other cases. Mobile courts sentenced 38 people to imprisonment, collected fines amounting to Taka 12,700, and filed 41 drug cases. The police seized a substantial amount of narcotics, including 7,644 Yaba tablets, 38.140 kilograms of cannabis, 198 liters of locally-brewed liquor, 49 bottles of foreign liquor, two cans of beer, and 100 bottles of Scuf syrup.
The report also indicated the arrest of 13 members of a banned organization, with detentions occurring in Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Cumilla, Noakhali, Khagrachhari, and Chandpur districts.
During operations targeting juvenile gangs, 617 individuals were detained. Out of these, 457 were released into their guardians' custody after signing a bond, while legal proceedings were initiated against 160. Cumilla saw the highest number of detentions at 253, followed by Lakshmipur with 128, and Chattogram with 81. The remaining detentions occurred in Brahmanbaria, Noakhali, Rangamati, Cox's Bazar, Khagrachhari, Chandpur, and Feni districts.
Police have stated that this special drive, conducted in the public interest, will continue.
