Dhaka:BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has urged for the termination of the 'mafia rule' within the road transport sector, highlighting the need to eliminate longstanding extortion, syndicates, and irregularities to restore discipline and ensure a comfortable environment for the public.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Rizvi made these remarks during a tribute programme organized by the newly formed committee of the Jatiya Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation at the graves of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman and former BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Rizvi expressed hope that the new federation would remain active and vocal in addressing the longstanding anarchy and illegal extortion on the roads. He conveyed confidence that the new leadership, with members having backgrounds in student politics, would apply fresh ideas and approaches to manage the road transport sector within the bounds of law and significantly enhance passenger services.
He emphasized that the leaders have taken on their roles with a commitment to improving the sector. Rizvi also mentioned that responsible performance in one sector could have a positive influence on other sectors, fostering improvement through healthy competition.
Rizvi further expressed optimism that the new federation leadership would help replace the deteriorated road transport management, which developed under what he described as fascist rule, with a system that strengthens public trust and ensures safer and more comfortable travel for people.
