PM Tarique Rahman Invites DP World Investment in Bangladesh’s Trade Zones

Dhaka:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called for DP World's investment in Bangladesh's free trade zones and rail-based inland container depots, aiming to bolster trade, investment, and logistics cooperation with the UAE-based port operator.

According to United News of Bangladesh, a delegation led by DP World Chairman Essa Kazim met with the Prime Minister at the Bangladesh Secretariat. The discussions focused on enhancing trade and investment relations between Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates, as well as port management and the development of logistics sectors.

The meeting also addressed the 15-year concession agreement between Bangladesh and DP World, which involves the operation and modernization of the New Mooring Container Terminal at Chittagong Port. Under this agreement, DP World will be responsible for operating and maintaining the terminal and its overflow container yard.

This partnership is anticipated to significantly contribute to modernizing the terminal, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing the capacity of Bangladesh's port and logistics infrastructure. The Prime Minister inquired about DP World's interest in establishing a free trade zone and a rail-based inland container depot, alongside potential new investments in Bangladesh.

Representatives from DP World expressed their interest in cooperation and investment in these areas. The discussions also included prospects for expanding Bangladesh-UAE trade and investment ties, as well as strengthening cooperation in port management and logistics.

This meeting is part of Bangladesh's ongoing efforts to enhance its port and logistics infrastructure while attracting foreign investment to support trade and economic growth.
