Dhaka:Bangladesh and Lithuania have agreed to utilize their strategic geographic locations to enhance cooperation and connectivity between the Baltic region and South and Southeast Asia. This decision was reached during the second Foreign Office Consultations held in Dhaka.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the talks focused on recalibrating and expanding bilateral relations, celebrating the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027, and encouraging private-sector interaction to explore economic cooperation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that the discussions included high-level visits and political cooperation.
Both sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the start of the consultations and discussed various aspects of their bilateral relations. Bangladesh highlighted its manufacturing strengths and invited Lithuanian investors to explore opportunities in its Special Economic Zones. Discussions also covered potential cooperation in ICT, digital governance, and several technological sectors.
Lithuania expressed interest in Bangladesh’s digital economy and readiness to support e-governance initiatives. They also discussed employment and skilled manpower migration, with Lithuania optimistic about prospects for cooperation under the EU's Talent Partnership programme.
The consultations included broader people-to-people ties, with a focus on education, sports, and cultural exchanges. Lithuania noted the increase in Bangladeshi students studying in the country and discussed future Foreign Office Consultations in Vilnius.
