National Bank Leadership Meets with Bangladesh Bank Governor

Dhaka:Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman met with National Bank PLC Chairman Prof Dr Melita Mehjabin and Acting Managing Director Jahidul Haque to discuss the bank's liquidity situation and ensure the smooth withdrawal of depositors' funds.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting took place at the Bangladesh Bank headquarters. Deputy Governors Dr Md Habibur Rahman, Dr Md Kabir Ahmed, Md Sarwar Hossain, and Md Anichur Rahman were also in attendance.

During the meeting, the National Bank chairman informed the governor about recent measures taken by Bangladesh Bank that have contributed to improved governance at the bank. She also noted positive changes in management aimed at enhancing efficiency and operational capacity.

The Bangladesh Bank governor addressed the current liquidity situation at National Bank PLC, focusing on the depositors' demand for withdrawals. He emphasized the importance of protecting depositors' interests, maintaining public confidence in the banking system, and ensuring uninterrupted banking operations.

To facilitate deposit withdrawals, the governor instructed National Bank authorities to take necessary actions and directed all branches and ATM booths to ensure adequate cash availability starting October 15, 2026. The governor highlighted that these measures are intended to safeguard depositors' interests while maintaining confidence in the banking sector.
