Bangladesh’s First Cycle Track to Open in Chattogram

Chattogram:Bangladesh is set to open its first dedicated cycle track in Chattogram, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion and reducing environmental pollution while offering a safe commuting option for residents.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the 2.2-kilometer cycle track, located in the Patenga Airport area, will be inaugurated by Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Friday. The inauguration is part of the Chattogram City Corporation's efforts to create a modern, eco-friendly urban environment.

On Thursday, Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain reviewed the preparations and construction work of the cycle track. He toured various sections and met with officials to ensure the track's readiness for public use. The Mayor emphasized the track's role in promoting an eco-friendly and healthy lifestyle in the city.

The cycle track is part of the 'Chattogram Airport Road Expansion and Other Physical Infrastructure Development' project, featuring a four-lane road with attractive footpaths and a landscaped walkway alongside the track. This initiative is intended to offer a safe and comfortable transport system for both residents and tourists.

The Mayor highlighted the importance of encouraging the younger generation to adopt cycling, which will help reduce traffic congestion and promote a healthier lifestyle. Future plans include further developments to make Chattogram a bicycle-friendly city.

The event was attended by various city officials, including Chattogram City Corporation Chief Executive and Secretary Mohammad Ashraful Amin and Chief Engineer Anisur Rahman.
