Dhaka:The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated four cases against former Vice-Chancellor of Gopalganj Science and Technology University (GSTU) Professor Khandakar Nasir Uddin and nine others. These cases allege irregularities in recruitment, promotion, and the misappropriation of government funds.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ACC's Deputy Director of the Public Relations Division, Md. Aktarul Islam, revealed this information during a media briefing at the commission's headquarters. The cases were filed after initial investigations confirmed allegations of criminal misconduct with dishonest intent.
The first case involves the recruitment of a lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, who was later upgraded to assistant professor. This case names former Vice-Chancellor Professor Khandakar Nasir Uddin, the then-Registrar Dr. Md. Nuruddin Ahmed, and Assistant Professor Md. Akkas Ali as accused, alleging a financial loss of Taka 83,48,820 to the government.
In the second case, similar allegations are made against Prof. Nasir Uddin, Dr. Md. Nuruddin Ahmed, and Assistant Professor Taslim Ahmed concerning the Department of Management. This incident reportedly caused a loss of Taka 91,74,681.
The third case alleges violations in the recruitment and promotion process involving another former Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khairul Alam Khan, the then-Registrar Md. Abdus Salam, and Acting Registrar Murad Hossain. The alleged financial loss from this case is Taka 1,25,71,366.
In the fourth case, Prof. Khandaker Nasir Uddin, Dr. Md. Nuruddin Ahmed, and Assistant Professor Nabdi Ajji are accused of causing a loss of Taka 51,68,915 in connection with the recruitment and promotion process.
Collectively, these cases suggest a total loss of Taka 3,52,63,782 in government funds. The charges have been filed under several sections of the Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947, with specific sections cited in the third case.
The investigation was conducted by an ACC team from the headquarters, led by Deputy Director Md. Alamgir Hossain, with Deputy Assistant Director Md. Manjurul Islam Montu as a team member.
