Germany Advocates for Early Bangladesh-EU Free Trade Agreement

Dhaka:German Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr. Rdiger Lotz has reaffirmed Germany's commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation, emphasizing the importance of an early Bangladesh-EU free trade agreement, improved aviation ties, and increased trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Ambassador Lotz made these remarks during a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir at the foreign ministry. He congratulated the state minister on his recent appointment and expressed optimism about the strengthening of Bangladesh-Germany relations.

The ambassador underscored the need for the prompt finalization of a Bangladesh-European Union Free Trade Agreement and sought greater cooperation in the aviation sector. He also advocated for expanding trade and investment, as well as fostering people-to-people exchanges between Bangladesh and Germany.

Lotz highlighted the stability in Bangladesh following its elections and noted a growing interest among German companies in the country's favorable investment climate. In response, Minister Kobir appreciated Germany's longstanding involvement with Bangladesh and its contributions to the country's development.

Minister Kobir expressed interest in furthering bilateral cooperation in various sectors including trade and investment, education, skills development, renewable energy, climate action, culture, migration, and mobility. The discussions covered a wide array of bilateral, regional, and global issues of mutual interest, including the expansion of Bangladesh-EU relations.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation in relevant international forums and expressed confidence that ongoing high-level engagement would continue to enhance the longstanding Bangladesh-Germany partnership. The meeting concluded on a positive and cordial note.
