Dog Attack Leaves 33 Injured in Kumarkhali

Kumarkhali:At least 33 individuals, including women and children, were bitten by a dog suspected to be rabid in various locations across Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia within approximately an hour on Wednesday evening. The attacks occurred between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the Hall Bazar, Amtala, Indra Mor, and Haytapara areas.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the victims were treated at Kumarkhali Upazila Health Complex, where Pratyay Biswas, an assistant surgeon, reported that many suffered serious wounds. Of those injured, 27 received anti-rabies vaccines, while the remaining six were advised to return to the hospital the next morning.

Witnesses described the dog as black and possibly rabid, noting it was seen moving through various parts of town, biting people. The dog reportedly appeared in Amtala, Hall Bazar, and Indra Mor before heading towards Charaikol’s Haytapara area in Nandolalpur union.

Md Roknuzzaman, one of the victims, recounted being bitten on the leg in Hall Bazar. Afzal Hossain, another victim from Haytapara, sought treatment around 8 p.m. and was advised to revisit the hospital the following day.

Navid Sarowar, Acting Kumarkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer, stated that efforts are ongoing to locate the dog and implement necessary measures to prevent further incidents.
