Dhaka:Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi described martyred Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Shaheed Abrar Fahad as a unique and bright symbol of the country's nationalist forces.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizvi praised Abrar Fahad's patriotism and supreme sacrifice, which he said inspired the nation to stand against aggression and fascism, uniting patriotic people across the country. Rizvi made these remarks while addressing a discussion organized by Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) at the Alumni Association Auditorium of the Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University, commemorating Abrar Fahad's memory.

Rizvi highlighted that Abrar Fahad was not just a victim of homicide but a voice against anti-national agreements, using his writings on Facebook to stand up for the country's sovereignty. He condemned the brutal killing of Abrar by those he described as lackeys of aggressive forces, stating their attempt to instill fear in the freedom-loving people failed.

Quoting Leo Tolstoy, Rizvi spoke about the national grief over Abrar's murder transforming into resistance and retribution, eventually leading to the July-August student-led mass uprising that forced ruler Sheikh Hasina to flee the country.

Rizvi expressed pride in sitting beside Abrar Fahad's father, who he noted was a former Rajshahi University student and had voted for him in the 1990 RAKSU election. He urged students to uphold Dhaka University's historic legacy in national movements.

The event also featured speeches by Abrar's father, Barkat Ullah, who questioned what crime his son committed other than awakening the nation to anti-national deals. He detailed Abrar's torture and murder and called for expedited justice, which is still delayed.

The discussion was attended by Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, DU treasurer, and several leaders and activists from the Chhatra Dal, reflecting on the impact of Abrar Fahad's life and death on the struggle for national sovereignty.
