Kushtia:The International Crimes Tribunal-2 is set to deliver its judgment in a case involving four individuals, including Mahbubul Alam Hanif, the joint general secretary of the Awami League, accused of crimes against humanity during the July uprising.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the tribunal, under the leadership of Justice Nozrul Islam Chowdhury, has reserved the verdict following the conclusion of legal arguments from both the prosecution and defense on Wednesday. The prosecution has called for the highest possible punishment for the accused.
The other individuals charged in the case are Sadar Uddin Khan, the former Chairman of Kushtia Zila Parishad; Asgar Ali, General Secretary of the Kushita district unit Awami League; and the General Secretary of Kushtia municipality unit Awami League. All three are currently absconding.
Charges against the four were formally framed by the ICT on November 2 of last year, with the trial proceedings commencing on November 25. Three specific charges were brought against them, including involvement in six murders in Kushtia during the uprising.
