Dhaka:Nepal's Election Commission is seeking technical assistance from Bangladesh to implement an IT-supported postal voting system for its upcoming provincial elections.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nepal's Election Commissioner Dr. Rajiv Subba announced this initiative following a meeting with Bangladesh's Election Commission. The meeting took place at the Nirbachon Bhaban, led by Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin, with participation from other commissioners and senior officials.

Dr. Rajiv Subba stated that Nepal is working on introducing an 'out-of-country' ballot voting system, inspired by Bangladesh's successful implementation. He highlighted the similarities between the two countries, particularly regarding the large expatriate populations, and expressed interest in learning from Bangladesh's experience to avoid potential pitfalls.

He mentioned the challenges of voter awareness among the estimated 20 to 40 million expatriate voters. The Nepalese delegation included several key officials, such as Election Commissioners Dr. Janaki Kumari Tuladhar and Dr. Rajiv Subba, along with other senior representatives.
