Chunarughat:An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) from Chunarughat Police Station has been transferred to Habiganj Police Lines following the release of a video allegedly showing him discussing bribery.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the officer in question, ASI Mohammad Ilias Hossain, was seen in a video making statements about accepting bribes while conducting an investigation at Ranigaon Bazar in Chunarughat upazila. The video, which lasts around one minute, features Ilias saying, "If I say I am a Daroga and I do not take bribes, will I be the imam of Baitul Mukarram? I put on this uniform with bribe money to take bribes."
Habiganj Superintendent of Police Md Tareq Mahmud confirmed the disciplinary action taken against ASI Ilias and stated that an assistant superintendent of police has been tasked with investigating the incident.
The video, recorded by a local resident on a mobile phone, was shared on Facebook, sparking widespread criticism and discussions on social media. Officer-in-Charge of Chunarughat Police Station Mohammad Saiful Islam acknowledged having seen the video and mentioned that the matter is currently under verification.
