Dhaka:The Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) has issued a strong condemnation of the alleged abduction and hostage situation involving Kamruzzaman Bablu, a permanent member of the organization and a Special Correspondent for Daily Adin. Kamruzzaman was reportedly forced to hand over money from his bank account and mobile financial services during the incident.
According to United News of Bangladesh, DRU President Abu Saleh Akon and General Secretary Mynul Hasan Sohel expressed deep concern over the incident, which took place after Kamruzzaman was lured to Dhaka's Postogola area by a Facebook contact. He was allegedly held at gunpoint, had his hands and eyes bound, and was threatened with death.
Kamruzzaman reported that his bank card and mobile financial services were exploited to withdraw money. The DRU leaders have labeled the incident as extremely grave, highlighting the risk it poses to journalists' safety and their ability to conduct their work independently.
The DRU demands an immediate and impartial investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for this incident. They have also called for a detailed review of the associated bank and mobile financial transactions, as well as related phone and device information.
In solidarity with Kamruzzaman, the DRU has urged law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of the journalist and his family.
