Kushtia:A 14-year-old girl from Kumarkhali upazila is reportedly around seven months pregnant, allegedly after being raped multiple times by her step-grandfather.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the accused, Rois Uddin, aged 55 and a resident of Raydanga village, was caught by locals but managed to escape before the police could arrest him. The incident came to light when the girl, who was sent to live with her step-grandfather after her mother's death and father's remarriage, began experiencing abdominal pain. Initially, her family suspected a tumor, but a gynaecological examination revealed the pregnancy.
The girl's maternal grandmother claims that Rois Uddin repeatedly raped her granddaughter over the course of a year, threatening her life to ensure her silence. Although locals apprehended him, he evaded capture by the authorities.
Officer-in-Charge of Kumarkhali Police Station, Jamal Uddin, stated that the girl has been taken into custody for a medical examination. He also mentioned that a rape case is being processed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, with further details pending investigation.
