Dhaka:Bangladesh's exports to key Asian markets have shown year-on-year growth in the first quarter of the current fiscal year, indicating potential for further diversification beyond traditional markets in the United States and Europe.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, data from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) revealed that exports to China increased by 9.33 percent, reaching US$225.41 million between July and September of the fiscal year 2026-27, compared to US$206.18 million during the same period the previous year.

Exports to the Republic of Korea saw a rise of 7.29 percent, totaling US$134.55 million, up from US$125.41 million. Meanwhile, shipments to India grew by 5.44 percent, amounting to US$510 million, compared to US$483.71 million.

Japan continued to be a significant market for Bangladeshi products, with exports totaling US$399.11 million in the quarter, slightly higher than the US$396.11 million recorded a year earlier.

Overall, Bangladesh's merchandise exports increased, with total earnings reaching US$13.09 billion for July-September, marking a 6.34 percent increase from US$12.31 billion during the same period last year, according to EPB data.

The growth in exports to these Asian markets underscores the potential for Bangladesh to diversify its export portfolio, enhance regional trade links, and expand its role in Asian supply chains. However, sustaining this growth will require efforts to identify products with competitive advantages, adhere to market standards, and improve logistics and market access.
