Dhaka:Eighteen sub-registrars have been selected through a lottery from among 131 'A-category' sub-registrars across the country for postings at key sub-registry offices in Dhaka. This marks the first initiative of its kind, aiming to bring transparency to the posting process.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the selected sub-registrars will be posted at different sub-registry offices in Dhaka within the next seven days. The selections consider their competence, ability to handle workload, and the requirements of the respective offices.

This initiative is part of the government's broader efforts to enhance transparency and accountability within sub-registry offices nationwide. Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman emphasized the government's intent to continue these efforts, particularly in areas known as "prize postings," where allegations of entrenched corruption are common.

Minister Asaduzzaman noted the negative perceptions surrounding sub-registrar postings and stressed the need for reform, stating that Dhaka postings are highly coveted among sub-registrars. He made these comments during a programme organized at the ministry to mark the lottery event.

Ministry sources indicated that the officials selected through the lottery would be under 24-hour monitoring to ensure they perform their duties properly. They will remain in their positions according to service rules, contingent on their performance. However, any involvement in corruption will result in their removal.

The sub-registrars chosen through the lottery include Md Golam Mortuza, Amaik Babu, Farida Akter, Ajay Kumar Saha, Amit Mangal Chakma, Md Russell Mallik, Gobinda Saha, Md Masum, SM Abu Musa, Naznin Jahan, Mohammad Hanif, Monisha Roy, Sing Mong Thowai, Rajib Majumdar, Ali Azgar, Sharmila Ahmed Shampa, Amina Begum, and Tinu Chakma.
