Rangamati:A court has sentenced Mohammad Mahibur Kamal Mahibullah to death and fined him Taka 50,000 for the murder of a woman in 2022. The crime took place in Kaptai upazila, where Mahibullah killed the woman and attempted to destroy evidence by setting her body on fire.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the District and Sessions Judge Md Ahsan Tarek delivered the verdict. The prosecution detailed that Mahibullah lured the woman to the BFIDC Model Government Primary School premises in March 2022 amid a dispute over their relationship and financial matters.
At the school, Mahibullah fatally hit the woman on the head with a brick. He then moved her body to an abandoned toilet within the school grounds and set it on fire to conceal his actions.
The accused was apprehended by police after investigators tracked him using mobile phone call records. Public Prosecutor Advocate Pratim Roy Pampu stated that Mahibullah confessed to the crime under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The court's decision was based on the testimonies of 13 prosecution witnesses and other evidence, finding Mahibullah guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
