Court Orders Further Investigation into Sheikh Hasina and Others in Sifat Murder Case

Dhaka:A court has mandated the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to carry out an additional investigation into a case involving former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 25 others, related to the death of Md Sifat Hossain during the July 2024 mass uprising.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam issued the order on Monday after accepting a naraji petition submitted by the plaintiff. The court has scheduled November 10 as the deadline for the submission of the investigation report.

The case documents reveal that Sifat was shot and killed when police allegedly fired on protesters in the Mirpur-10 area on July 20, 2024. His father, Kamal Hawlader, filed the case on August 15, 2024, at the Mirpur Model Police Station, naming 22 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina, as defendants.

The police filed a charge sheet on May 28, 2026, implicating a total of 26 individuals.
