Dhaka:The government's decision to consider adjusting domestic fuel prices will depend on the stabilization of global market trends, as stated by Prime Minister's Information and Broadcasting Adviser Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman. During a weekly press briefing at the Secretariat, he addressed questions regarding current fuel price challenges.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Zahed highlighted that previous adjustments to fuel prices were aligned with global market trends. He emphasized that further adjustments would be considered if global prices stabilize and decrease to a sustainable level.

The adviser's primary focus is on controlling commodity prices and addressing the fuel crisis. A decrease in fuel prices, along with stable conditions and secured supplies, could enhance local investment, create jobs, and curb inflation, thus benefiting the general populace.

On the topic of battery-run auto-rickshaws and illegal electricity connections, Dr. Zahed noted that the government had formulated a policy considering the interests of auto-rickshaw drivers. He warned against maintaining illegal electricity lines, labeling such actions as criminal offenses. The government aims to control illegal activities through existing laws rather than special drives.

Regarding infrastructure projects like Chattogram Port and the Teesta Master Plan, Dr. Zahed stated that decisions would be made with the interest of the state and people in mind. A new feasibility study on the Teesta project is underway to retain monsoon water and improve river management.

Dr. Zahed also stressed the importance of maintaining a stable market supply chain to ensure fair pricing for importers and producers. He mentioned that increasing the rice allocation under the Vulnerable Group Feeding programme from 10 kg to 20 kg is among the initiatives taken to support low-income communities.

The briefing was attended by Dr. Md Alam Mostafa, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and Md Jahidul Islam, Senior Deputy Principal Information Officer.
