Dhaka:Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Aminur Rashid emphasized the need for increased budgetary allocations for the fisheries sector, citing its cultural and economic importance. However, he insisted that additional funding must come with enhanced transparency, accountability, and proper resource utilization to prevent financial wastage.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, During a workshop titled "Budget in the Fisheries Sector and Government's Development Plan" at the Department of Fisheries, Minister Rashid highlighted the decline in indigenous fish due to environmental changes and shrinking natural water bodies. He advocated for the protection of natural fish habitats and regular field-level reviews to ensure the effectiveness of fish sanctuaries in breeding and reproduction.

He also warned against inaccuracies in fishermen's lists, which could result in genuine fishermen losing government support, and called for a concrete plan to convert survey findings into practical activities for deep-sea and tuna fishing. Rashid stressed the need for skilled manpower, suitable vessels, and modern technology to fully exploit deep-sea fisheries resources.

State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku urged support for young entrepreneurs and fish farmers through technical advice and regular farm monitoring to boost productivity. He mentioned the government's efforts to enhance fish production in canals, wetlands, rivers, and streams, as well as to increase freshwater fish production and exports.

Tuku highlighted the importance of pollution-free water bodies, river protection, and maintaining navigability for sustainable fisheries development. He also called for a focus on fish processing and export expansion.
