Dhaka:Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) officials confiscated 631 cartons of foreign cigarettes, along with a mobile phone and three laptops, from the baggage of three passengers arriving on a single flight at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the CIID Airport Circle (C-Shift) conducted the operation on October 5 following a tip-off received by the director general of the directorate.
Acting on the intelligence, customs officials maintained vigilance at the airport and searched the baggage of passengers arriving on Air Arabia flight G9 571 from Sharjah to Dhaka. During the search, they recovered 320 cartons of cigarettes, one mobile phone, and one laptop from Mohammed Shahin's baggage.
Additionally, 125 cartons of cigarettes and one laptop were seized from K M Fozol Haque's baggage, while 186 cartons of cigarettes and one laptop were recovered from Belayet Bhuiyan Hossain's baggage.
The total estimated market value of the seized goods is Tk 32.40 lakh, according to the CIID.
