Dhaka:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stated that his government is working to ensure a stable, competitive, and investment-friendly environment for both domestic and foreign investors. This announcement came during a meeting with a high-level delegation from Toyota Tsusho Corporation, led by Vice Chairman Ichiro Kashitani, at his office in the Secretariat.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Toyota Tsusho delegation informed the Prime Minister about its plan to establish a Toyota automobile manufacturing plant in Bangladesh. The initiative aims to create employment, promote industrialization, facilitate technology transfer, and help develop skilled human resources in the country.
The discussions also covered the expansion of Toyota's operations in Bangladesh, potential investment areas, and its long-term business plans. Prime Minister Rahman welcomed Toyota's investment interest, affirming the government's commitment to providing policy support, infrastructure, and other facilities for foreign investors.
Additionally, the Prime Minister highlighted the potential in waste-to-energy generation and renewable energy, offering government cooperation if Toyota Tsusho expresses interest in these sectors. The delegation from Toyota mentioned plans to expand their distribution network throughout Bangladesh to enhance accessibility.
Toyota Bangladesh is set to begin work in 2027 on a hybrid electric vehicle manufacturing industry, aiming for full-scale production by 2029. The company also intends to support human resource development by creating technical and vocational training opportunities, enhancing skills for future industries.
The meeting was attended by Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, Prime Minister's Adviser on Finance and Planning Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir, and other senior officials. On the Toyota side, attendees included Toyota Tsusho Corporation Mobility Division CEO Shigeru Harada and Toyota Bangladesh Limited President Premmit Singh.
