Dhaka:A court has placed former Member of Parliament from the Netrokona-1 constituency, Mustaque Ahmed Ruhi, on a four-day remand in connection with the murder of courier service employee Raju Ahmed. The incident occurred in the Mohammadpur area during the July 2024 Mass Uprising.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decision was made by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ismail after considering a police request for a seven-day remand of the ex-lawmaker.
Police apprehended Mustaque Ahmed Ruhi on September 23 from a residence in the Iqbal Road area of Mohammadpur. Following his arrest, he was sent to jail related to the case.
Case documents reveal that during the uprising on July 19, 2024, a peaceful procession was fired upon in front of an apartment near Janani Courier Service in Banshbari, Mohammadpur. Raju Ahmed, who was observing the procession from outside his workplace, was shot and later succumbed to his injuries at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
Raju Ahmed's father subsequently filed a case at Mohammadpur Police Station on August 27, 2024, seeking justice for his son's murder.
