Prime Minister Inaugurates Housing Fair on World Habitat Day

Dhaka:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated a three-day housing fair today in Dhaka to mark World Habitat Day 2026. The event took place at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre, following a discussion organized to celebrate the day.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the fair includes 157 stalls featuring various sectors such as REHAB, construction, banking services, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), the Department of Architecture, the Public Works Department, and other urban planning entities under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.

After opening the fair, Prime Minister Rahman visited several stalls and received briefings on the activities of different organizations within the housing and construction sectors, as well as government agencies. He also signed a visitors' book at the fair.

Earlier, a discussion was organized by the Ministry of Housing and Public Works under the theme 'Universal Housing, Sustainable Urbanisation'. Prime Minister Rahman attended as the chief guest and emphasized the importance of ensuring safe, affordable, and quality housing for every citizen, alongside planned and sustainable urbanization.

The event was presided over by Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher, with contributions from Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo, State Minister for Housing Ahammad Sohel Monzoor, UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Carol Flore-Smereczniak, and Secretary of the Ministry Md. Obaidur Rahman. Various ministers, state ministers, advisers, special assistants, and senior government officials were also in attendance.

Additionally, Prime Minister Rahman planted a 'Golden Champa' sapling at the conference centre premises earlier in the day.
