Dhaka:Prime Minister's Adviser and Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, Mahdi Amin, emphasized Bangladesh's plans and potential during a session titled 'Leadership in an Age of Uncertainty' on the third day of the Bay of Bengal Conversation held at Hotel Sonargaon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mahdi Amin acknowledged the current global uncertainties impacting various aspects of daily life, such as technological changes, environmental disasters, economic crises, and political instability. He stressed the importance of moving forward despite these challenges, underscoring the government's preparedness to address crises effectively with a focus on certainty in principles and values.
Amin highlighted initiatives under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's leadership, including plans to plant 25 crore trees in the next five years and excavate 20,000 kilometers of canals for water conservation. He also discussed the construction of the Padma Barrage and a master plan for the Teesta Barrage to enhance agricultural productivity.
In response to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, he emphasized the need to equip the young generation with modern skills and noted government initiatives to modernize the education system, strengthen industry-education links, and enhance public-private partnerships.
Amin also outlined social safety-net initiatives such as the Family Card, Farmer Card, and Health Card to ensure healthcare and protection for citizens. Plans to recruit 100,000 health workers, predominantly women, aim to bolster healthcare services at the grassroots level.
Addressing energy security, Amin noted the government's focus on diversifying energy sources and prioritizing renewable energy, including solar power. He stressed the importance of regional cooperation and mutual trust in overcoming common challenges during the Bay of Bengal Conversation, moderated by Kamal Deb Bhattarai, with participation from representatives and researchers from various countries.
