Dhaka:A court has shown former shipping minister Shahjahan Khan as arrested in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) concerning allegations of accumulating illegal wealth.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir approved the ACC's petition to show the former minister arrested. Shahjahan Khan was subsequently sent back to jail.
The ACC's investigation revealed that movable and immovable assets amounting to Taka 11.79 crore were in the name of Khan's son, Md Asibur Rahman. However, Rahman's legitimate income sources totaled only Taka 1.89 crore, indicating that assets worth Taka 9.89 crore were acquired beyond known income sources and inconsistent with declared income.
The case also alleges that Shahjahan Khan, during his tenure as a lawmaker and minister, abused his position to assist his son in acquiring these assets through illicit means. ACC Deputy Director Kamalesh Mondal filed the complaint on February 2, 2025.
Shahjahan Khan was initially arrested in the Dhanmondi area of the capital on September 6, 2024, and has remained in custody since then.
