Dhaka:President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today encouraged the nation's youth to engage in business and commerce during a meeting with a 21-member delegation from the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) at Bangabhaban.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the President emphasized the importance of young entrepreneurs participating in emerging modern technologies, including the Fourth Industrial Revolution, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence. He also highlighted the need for the business community to contribute to the development of the country's energy sector.
The President recalled the period of low-interest bank loans under late Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, stating that such initiatives had supported industrialization and the creation of new entrepreneurs, especially in regions like Rajshahi and the north. He advocated for reducing bank interest rates to further expand business and commerce.
During the meeting, DCCI extended an invitation to the President for the upcoming Bangladesh AI Business Summit 2026, which he accepted. They also reported their efforts to support Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's plan to elevate the economy to one trillion dollars by 2034.
The delegation expressed optimism about overcoming challenges in business and commerce within two years through cooperation with the government. They also discussed various demands, problems, and potentials with the President.
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged the delegation to support the institutionalization of democracy, noting past struggles for democratic governance and the setbacks caused by political mismanagement and corruption. He called on the business community to engage in social development and welfare activities, addressing issues of greed that have impacted the banking sector.
The meeting included the President's Military Secretary, Secretary, Press Secretary, and DCCI members.
