Arusha:Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikrom, has taken charge as the chairman of the Asia-Pacific Group (APG) of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Hafiz Uddin Ahmad formally assumed the role from Bhutan's Speaker Tashi Dorji during a ceremony held in Arusha, Tanzania. This transition was confirmed by a statement from Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat Secretary Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, who is accompanying the parliamentary delegation led by Speaker Hafiz on his visit to Tanzania.
The Asia-Pacific Group consists of 37 member countries. The Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat expressed optimism that Hafiz Uddin Ahmad's leadership would enhance Bangladesh's influence and participation in the international parliamentary community.
The Speaker is in Arusha to participate in the 153rd IPU Assembly and related meetings.
