Dhaka:Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has been ranked second among 30 selected state-owned enterprises and autonomous bodies in the Ministry of Finance's Independent Performance Evaluation for the fiscal year 2023-24.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ranking acknowledges BTRC's efforts in establishing good governance, enhancing institutional efficiency, and providing public service. BTRC Director General Mehedi-ul-Shahid received the recognition and crest from Rahima Begum, Director General of the Monitoring Cell of the Ministry of Finance.
BTRC secured its position with a score of 3.17 under the 'Strengthening of State-owned Enterprises Governance' scheme. The evaluation, supervised by the Independent Performance Evaluation Committee, considered factors like financial management, corporate governance, transparency, operational efficiency, and policy implementation.
The commission has also been proactive in developing the telecommunications sector, surpassing revenue targets, and improving customer services. For FY24, BTRC exceeded its revenue target, collecting Tk 4,434 crore against the target of Tk 3,555 crore. Since its inception until June 2025, BTRC collected Tk 81,891 crore, surpassing the target of Tk 75,882 crore.
BTRC's ongoing initiatives include expanding digital services, managing spectrum, setting broadband tariffs, and implementing 'One Country, One Rate' for internet. They also focus on public hearings, quality standards, customer complaints, and ensuring transparent licensing and regulation.
These efforts are expected to further enhance the telecommunications sector, improve governance, service quality, and maintain a role in revenue generation.
