Dhaka:Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has called on Algeria to enhance its imports of ready-made garments and pharmaceutical products from Bangladesh. This appeal was made to strengthen the economic ties between the two nations.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister also urged Algeria to consider recruiting skilled Bangladeshi professionals, including doctors and nurses. These remarks were made during a meeting with Algerian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Dr. Abdel Wahab Saidani, held at the secretariat office.
The discussions covered various topics of mutual interest, such as maintaining peace and order, security cooperation, and tackling human trafficking. Both parties emphasized the importance of specialized training for security forces, joint workshops, and legal assistance exchanges.
Furthermore, the meeting revealed ongoing government-to-government initiatives for the long-term import of LNG and fertilizers. Both sides agreed that these steps would elevate their commercial relations.
Ambassador Saidani recalled that Algeria was the first Arab nation to recognize Bangladesh's independence in 1971 and expressed a strong desire to strengthen the bilateral relationship further. In response, the home minister reiterated the potential for Algeria to increase imports from Bangladesh to boost economic ties.
Addressing legal issues involving an Algerian national in Bangladesh, the home minister suggested proceeding through the appropriate court channels and assured necessary legal support. The meeting also noted the acceptance of an invitation by the Algerian President to visit Bangladesh, with a focus on scheduling a convenient date.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in security, trade, and diplomatic relations. Key officials including Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry Manzur Morshed Chowdhury and others were present at the meeting.
