Rajshahi:The National Citizen Party (NCP) has condemned an alleged assault by Chhatra Dal leaders and activists on journalists and students at Rajshahi University, urging swift action against those involved.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute over a comment on a Facebook post. Chhatra Dal leaders and activists allegedly gathered in front of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall with weapons, targeting journalists covering the event.

Four journalists were injured in the attack, including Mainul Islam Raju of Samakal, Noor Ahsan Mridul of The Daily Star, Arifuzzaman Korban of bdnews24.com, and Jahidul Islam of Agamir Somoy, who sustained a serious head injury. The NCP statement also claimed that the attackers threatened to 'bury them alive.'

The party identified at least ten Chhatra Dal leaders and activists as participants in the attack, naming individuals such as University Chhatra Dal Vice-President Ahsan Habib, Joint General Secretary Hasibul Islam, Vice-President Shariful Islam, and Assistant Office Secretary Shahriar Alam.

The injured were initially treated at the university medical center before being transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

The NCP criticized the university administration for its failure to protect students and journalists, demanding the immediate arrest of the perpetrators and strict action under both party rules and state law. They also called for measures to safeguard students and media personnel and to uphold freedom of expression on university campuses.
