Japanese Ambassador Highlights Ongoing Investment Initiatives in Bangladesh

Dhaka:Japanese Ambassador to Dhaka Saida Shinichi has expressed confidence that several major Japanese investment initiatives in Bangladesh will come to fruition soon. The ambassador, speaking at the 21st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI) in Gulshan, emphasized Japan's role as a trusted development and business partner of Bangladesh.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Ambassador Saida stressed the importance of strong governance and institutional relevance in delivering tangible benefits to businesses in both countries. He highlighted the Economic Partnership Agreement signed in February, facilitated by JBCCI, and called for industrial diversification, development of upstream industries, removal of regulatory barriers, and job creation for Bangladesh's youth.

He also underscored the need for a transparent and sustainable relationship between business and politics to foster long-term economic growth. The Japanese Embassy continues to support JBCCI's efforts in boosting bilateral trade and investment.

At the AGM, JBCCI introduced its new 16-member board for the 2026-28 term, with Kazuiki Kataoka elected as president. Kataoka, in his acceptance speech, thanked the outgoing leadership and pledged to emphasize Japan's contributions to Bangladesh through various sectors. He aims to leverage the expertise of JBCCI's nearly 400 member companies through knowledge-sharing and networking.

Outgoing President Tareq Rafi Bhuiyan welcomed attendees and highlighted JBCCI's role in strengthening bilateral ties. Secretary General Maria Howlader FCA reviewed the chamber's activities from November 2025 to September 2026, noting an increase in membership. Joint Treasurer Md Jahangir Alam Sharker CPA presented the financial report, indicating sustainable growth.

The AGM approved Shafiq Mizan Rahman and Augustine, Chartered Accountants, as auditors for the 2026-27 financial year. The new board includes Abu Zaman Md Tariqul Islam and Syed Samiul Huq as vice-presidents, among others, with Manabu Sugawara and Abdul Haque as advisers.

JBCCI Vice-President Hiroaki Oura offered a vote of thanks, acknowledging the outgoing board's efforts and wishing success to the new leadership.
