Rangpur:World Habitat Day 2026 was observed in Rangpur with an emphasis on the need for planned urbanization to create safe and livable settlements. The Rangpur Development Authority (RDA) organized a discussion at the Shaheed Abu Sayeed Indoor Stadium to mark the occasion.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam attended the event as the chief guest, while RDA Chairman and Rangpur Metropolitan BNP Convener Md Shamsuzzaman Samu presided over the program. The discussions highlighted that, alongside food, having a beautiful and safe home is a fundamental human need.
The chief guest emphasized that the RDA's role goes beyond approving building plans, focusing instead on laying the foundation for Rangpur's future urban planning. He stressed the importance of integrating residential and commercial areas, roads, playgrounds, water bodies, and urban greening into a comprehensive planning framework. He also noted that building construction plans must be approved by the RDA according to the law and urged everyone to respect the planning process to ensure a safe and livable environment for future generations.
RDA Chairman Samu highlighted that urban development requires collective efforts and cooperation, not just the work of a single government agency. Additional dignitaries, including Mohammad Jahangir Hossain, Naresh Chakma, Sheikh Mizanur Rahman, and RDA planner Rezaul Rahman, attended the event.
Government officials, RDA staff, teachers, students, and people from various sectors participated in the event. The celebration began with a colorful rally from the Rangpur Zilla School grounds, concluding at the Shaheed Abu Sayeed Stadium.
