Barishal:Preparations for Durga Puja are intensifying across Barishal district and the city. Artisans and organizers are engrossed in making idols, painting, and decorating puja mandaps, while lighting and ceremonial gates are being installed in anticipation of the celebrations.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a total of 637 puja mandaps will host Durga Puja this year in Barishal, with 590 located in the district and 47 in the city. This marks an increase of one mandap from the previous year, as confirmed by the authorities.

The festivities will commence with Mahalaya on October 10, followed by key rituals such as Maha Shashthi on October 17, Maha Saptami on October 18, Maha Ashtami on October 19, Maha Nabami on October 20, and Bijoya Dashami on October 21.

At the Falpatti Kalimata Thakurani Temple and Sri Sri Jagannath Temple on Sadar Road, artisans are working tirelessly to complete the idols. Most structural and clay work is nearly finished, with painting and final touches underway. Workers are also busy beautifying the premises and installing decorative elements and lighting.

Idol maker Ranjit Pal mentioned that rising material costs have increased expenses for idol-making and decoration. Despite this, artisans are committed to completing the work on schedule.

Security is being prioritized, with CCTV cameras installed at various mandaps. Authorities are intensifying patrols and surveillance to maintain law and order during the festival. Members of law enforcement will be stationed at the mandaps to ensure safety.

Gopal Chandra, General Secretary of the Barishal Metropolitan Puja Udjapan Parishad, stated that most preparations are complete, with security being a top priority. Manik Mukherjee, President of the Barishal District Puja Udjapan Parishad, highlighted the ongoing support from the administration in facilitating the preparations.

A preparatory meeting was held by the Barishal district administration to ensure a smooth celebration. Chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mamun Khandaker, the meeting included discussions on maintaining law and order and enhancing coordination among all parties involved. Senior officials, including Barishal Police Superintendent AZM Mostafizur Rahman, attended the meeting.

As Durga Puja approaches, a festive atmosphere has enveloped the Hindu community in Barishal, driven by the final preparations for the celebration.
